Update on Working Arrangements from Revd Holly Newton

Dear friends and colleagues,

As many of you are aware I have been experiencing a challenging time with my ME in recent months. After time off in February/March I have returned to working full time and have been trying to manage my condition. This has proved difficult and my symptoms have gradually worsened. Therefore, in consultation with Rebecca, and with the IME team and diocese, it has been agreed that some adjustments now need to be made. It has been agreed that my working hours will be slightly reduced. Going forward I will be taking two rest days per week instead of one. These will normally be a Friday and a Saturday. I will also be taking a weekly study day to concentrate on the study I need to complete for my curacy and in order to have a quieter day based at home. This will normally be a Thursday when I will be contactable but will be focusing on my studies. There may be some variation in these days when need arises, for example when there are weddings or events taking place, in which situations I will take an alternative day off/study day.

With Rebecca and the IME team, I will be reviewing things as we go forward in order to decide the best use of the time available taking into account the needs of the parish as well as the learning I need to cover for the successful completion of my curacy.

It is hoped that by putting these measures in place we will be able to avoid any worsening of symptoms. We will of course keep everyone updated should anything change.

In challenging circumstances, it is important to stay rooted and grounded in God’s love and guidance and I continue to trust in God as He guides me one step at a time on this journey, as He does us all. A Bible verse I continually return to is 2 Corinthians 12:9But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” This is true for each one of us. God’s grace and power are sufficient for us, regardless of our weaknesses, when we rely fully on God’s provision and not on our own strength. In and through our experiences of difficulty, we can know God working for good in our lives and in the lives of those around us. This has certainly been my experience in learning to manage my own health challenges.

I am very grateful for all of your continuing prayers, support and understanding and am excited to continue working with you all in ministry and mission.

With every blessing,

Holly
