Spacecraft Westbury in partnership with All Saints’ Church held a series of seven drawing classes in June and July.
Each class focused on a different area of the church and used a different technique. Each Tuesday the class were welcomed with tea, cake and conversation provided by All Saints’ Church. Then for just one hour the group worked in quiet concentration on their work. Ali Vermeeren, the owner of Spacecraft and a talented artist herself provided encouragement and help to each member of the class as they worked on their piece.
At the end of the class the group shared their work together with many words of support and encouragement.
For their final session the artists made a collaborative piece, a 3D model of the Ley Memorial located in the South Transept. They created a ‘peep show’ or funnel book. Each artist worked on their own section, in their own style. At the end each section was slotted together in a wonderful collaborative piece of art. The different style of each artist all contributing to the finished piece.
Ali Vermeeren of Spacecraft said: “It’s been such a special term to draw with all the artists. What a venue! We hope to return next summer.”
The finished piece can be found next to the Memorial in the church until the end of the school holidays.
The group meet throughout the year so look out for future classes in Spacecraft.
