“Where would the Anglican Communion be without the Mother’s Union? Helping to transform communities through teaching, prayer and pastoral care”
Archbishop of York, Stephen Cotterell
Our May meeting, at the home of Jocelyn and Clive Short, welcomed The Revd. Jayne Davies, our newly commissioned Diocesan Chaplain to talk to us about the varied aspects of her ministry. This began before women were ordained as priests and blossomed from childhood participation in the church life where she grew up, through university and encouragement from a forward thinking Chaplain. This led to pastoral care for students and led on to training for the ministry where she met her future husband. Becoming hospital chaplain, organising a large team of volunteers and overseeing facilities in hospital for other faiths. as well as raising a family has given her really wide experiences and a long association with Mother’s Union. As her husband is “House For Duty Priest” at Salisbury Cathedral, we look forward to meeting her at future Mother’s Union events. We thanked her and wished her well as she prepares for her daughter’s wedding and gave her a copy of our “One Hundred Reflections” which had been compiled during lockdown and expressed our thanks for the many good things we enjoy.
Tess then told us of her experience travelling with the Revd. Caroline on the pilgrim route in Spain; travelling 100 kilometres over 5 days to Santiago de Compostela. Well Done!
Jocelyn drew our attention to the posters and information for the holiday caravan and encouraged everyone to make it known and the possibilities of booking a stay outside of school holidays.
Possibilities for an outing are under discussion and further information will be circulated to members.
Our prayers include; Sadness at the loss of Sue Innis, whose funeral had taken place that week; prayers for the continued care of Clive Short; prayers for Maureen Torry who is in hospital and prayers from the Spring Gathering which had taken place at Charlton Marshall at the end of April.
Our next meeting on Wednesday 14th June from 11.00 am until 3.00pm is our Quiet Day led by the Revd Margaret Davies and will be at All Saints Church in Westbury.
