Never underestimate the power of prayer
Our February meeting took the form of a soup lunch followed by the Wave of Prayer service. MU members from All Saints joined us for a delicious selection of home made soups, bread rolls and cheese with lots of friendly chat around the tables. The Revd Caroline led the Wave of Prayer service which occurs at this time each year and sees a continuous wave of prayer around the diocese as Mothers’ Union members pray for the many projects undertaken both here and around the world. Candles are lit at various stages of the service with bible readings, hymns and prayers reflecting the various projects. John Whapshott accompanied the singing by playing the organ. The topics included;
- work on gender based violence,
- links with areas of the world remembered in our prayer diary,
- local areas of interest such as the work with young people and their families nursing virtual babies,
- the holiday home at Rockley Park ,
- Angel Tree gifts and
- Baby Bundles
many of these involving local MU members.
One of the prayers at the end of the service was:
“Loving Lord, help us to fully appreciate the blessings of being united in the family of God. Let us be ever ready to intercede for each other for God’s assistance and protection. May God encourage us in heart and unite us in love“. Amen.
Thank you
Enid
We were pleased to welcome Margaret Wakelin as our newest MU member during our Sunday service.

Our next meeting is on Thursday 2 March at 10am at 10 Greenacres is a talk by Gaye Maynard “Life in South Sudan”
Mothering Sunday
On Sunday 19th March , Mothering Sunday we will be remembering our own mothers and all that they did to care, protect and teach us. At the same time we will be remembering the mothers around the world who may have very different day to day living situations from our own but who have the same love and hopes for their families. Mothering Sunday is one of the major fund raising dates for Mothers’ Union as our gifts of resilience are gifts we can give that will empower women around the world who often are themselves responsible for their own families and children. Literacy learning circles and business training give women confidence to speak out and to take leading roles in their communities.

God of all, born into a family, knowing the joys and tensions that family life can bring,
grant us your grace.
May hope be stronger than struggle,
May celebrations be more frequent than trials, may kindness prevail over judgement,
May equality dissolve oppression, may love break walls of hate
Amen
We hope to see you at our Mothering Sunday service on March 19th at Cafe Church in Dilton Marsh Memorial Hall
