The Drop In Youth Cafe is held in Westbury Parish Hall every Friday from 6.30pm – 8.30pm. Members of All Saints’ Church wanted to respond to the issues of anti-social behaviour around the church and town centre. It was developed after discussions with 4Youth (SouthWest) who carry out detached youth work in Westbury twice a week.
The Drop in Youth Cafe got off to a good start on Friday 13 January. We welcomed 7 young people for a relaxed evening of games, music, food and chat. The young people said that they enjoyed the evening and would return. Just 2 attended the following week but we expect a slow start and it will take some time to build a regular membership.
We have a small team of dedicated volunteers but we have room for some more.
Safeguarding is very important to us and youth workers from the youth charity 4Youth who are based in Melksham ensure that everything is done correctly and provide professional support.
We’d like to thank the Community Fridge and Westbury Morrisons Community Champion for donations of food and to those who have made generous financial donations including Westbury Area Churches Together.
How can you help?
We are looking for volunteers to support the project. They will be responsible for opening up and closing up of the hall and serving the food. The professional youth workers supplied by 4Youth will be responsible for the activities and working with the young people. You do not need any experience of youth work.
You don’t need to be a member of All Saints’ Church to volunteer. Any one can help subject to safeguarding procedures.
If you can help provide refreshments please get in touch – we would be grateful for help with making a cake each week and help with creating a simple one pot hot meal. If you think you might be able to do this once a month we’d love to hear from you!
We are also seeking donations to support this work as there will be costs for the staff, food and other expenses. You can make a donation to support the work of the Youth Cafe using this link
